Take a step back in time at Kings Landing. Experience the
lifestyle of a young person of the 1800s, for a summer vacation
to remember for a lifetime.
Summer camp with a difference…
Kings Landing Historical Settlement offers a unique educational
experience for youngsters between the ages of 9 and 14 – a
summer camp different from others in many ways. “Visiting
Cousins are immersed in history, experiencing the life style of
the 1800’s in a village setting. It’s an opportunity to live
like a young person of the 19th century for five days.
The Visiting Cousins program operates 7 weeks through the summer
school break. During their stay, participants act as visiting
relatives to Kings Landing’s families, dress in period costume
and participate in as many 19th century activities as possible,
associated with one of the historic homes in the village.
Necessary life skills are practiced, including cooking, butter
making, needlepoint, wool processing, working with the
blacksmith, cooper, carpenter, sawyer and farmer. They also the
1840 one-room schoolhouse each day.
Their day starts early with structured activities before they
enter the historical settlement and continues into the evening
with games, songs and drama. Visiting Cousins have so much fun
they don’t realize they are learning history. They make lasting
friendships with children from across North America and beyond.

The Family Kin program is offered to
children who have previously enjoyed the Visiting Cousins
experience. Participants are between the ages of 12 and 15. As
they would have done in the 19th century, these young men and
women select and learn a trade or occupation to prepare for
their life’s work. Family Kin participants choose the trade or
skill they remember as a favourite from their stay as a Visiting
Cousin. Kings Landing has skilled artisans practicing a wide
range of trades and crafts to challenge these young apprentices.
The Family Kin program is offered only one week during
mid-summer.
